Another name for an Internet community is a cyber community. Cyber communities are made of people connected through the Internet. A cyber community can be a message board, forum, chat room, blog, and other social networking sites. My Space, Face book, Twitter, Flickr are cyber communities that are popular with our students (your children) and have received both positive and negative attention recently.
While social networking sites can be a very valuable learning tool, there are sites and situations that are unsafe for your children. Developing an understanding of appropriate behavior on the Internet, in cyber communities, and on portable networking devices (e.g. cell phones, gaming devices) takes place in school and at home.
