In 1998, each school began to use curriculum maps. The schools developed curriculum maps for each subject area using data collected on teachers’ operational maps. Division curriculum maps were created using the school maps. Subject area task forces examined the division maps to ensure there are no major gaps, that transitions are clear, and that the maps comply with the standards, blueprints, and curriculum frameworks provided by the Virginia Department of Education. The schools were asked to review all the maps as a faculty and send any recommendations for changes to the division committee for consideration. Using the recommendations of the task forces and the faculties, the division committee approved the original division maps on May 24, 2002.
All licensed instructional personnel of Spotsylvania County Schools were invited to apply to be a member of the division-wide curriculum mapping committees. The purpose of the committees was to approve division curriculum maps so that teachers, students, and parents know what our students experience over the course of time as they move through the grade levels. The division maps provide a framework for our academic studies from year to year and represent the collective wisdom of the professionals of Spotsylvania County Schools. The division's curriculum maps in all subject areas are available for your use. You may access them by selecting one of the links below.
