Virginia Preschool Initiative

The Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) provides programs for at-risk four-year-old children that include quality preschool education, health services, social services, parental involvement, and transportation. VPI is funded by grants from the Virginia Department of Education.

 
Program Overview:
·        Full school day program
·        Monday through Friday
·        School Bus Transportation
·        Breakfast and Lunch offered
·        Class size limited to 18 children
·        Professional pre-school team at each site
·        Curriculum based on Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning
 
 
Eligibility:
Children must be four years old by September 30th of the year they begin.
Selection factors include: family income, education level of parents, family stress, health or developmental concerns.
 
Programs are housed at Harrison Road Elementary School or John J. Wright Educational and Cultural Center. Parents can apply at the Headstart Office at Chancellor Elementary School: (540) 548-0655, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
