There are seventeen elementary schools located in all seven magisterial districts of Spotsylvania County. Each school is staffed by: a principal, an assistant principal (the four smaller schools have administrative interns), a counselor, and a variety of special education teachers.  Eleven schools have Title I teachers, a nurse, a reading resource teacher, SCOPE teacher, a music teacher, an art teacher, a librarian, and an instructional technology resouces teacher. Classroom teachers are allocated on a 22-1 student/teacher ratio.  Some schools are serviced by math specialists and all schools receive ESOL support.

PTA or PTO organizations actively involve parents in the daily operation of each school. In most schools, there are thirty minute lunch periods and an average of forty-five minutes of planning time each day for teachers. Approximately two hours are dedicated to language arts instruction daily. Math is taught for one hour. Science and Social Studies are taught for forty-five minutes each and physical education is required for thirty minutes each day. Intervention is available at all schools as well as summer school which is offered at a number of schools. Head Start is offered at seven school sites for all county residents, and Virginia Preschool Initiative is also offered to four year olds.

A detailed description of the elementary program can be found in the Spotsylvania County Elementary Handbook. This covers the basic philosophy of the program, specific information on the teaching of English and Communication skills, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/History, and Health, Art, Music and Physical Education, as well as special programs and personnel.
