Background
Each year, the School Board is required to establish a calendar indicating when schools will be open for students as well as other important dates during the school year (such as the end of each grading period, when report cards will be issued, the dates of parent conferences, school holidays, etc.). When making that decision, the School Board must consider many factors, such as:
• State and federal requirements pertaining to the calendar
• The academic needs of all children
• State and federal testing schedules
• State and federal holidays
• Past practices (previous calendars)
• Student, employee, and patron input
This survey has been created to solicit input from students, employees, and patrons. All responses received will be shared with the Board. Please remember that the results of this survey will be used as one of many factors that the School Board has to consider as it makes its decisions about the potential impact of the calendar in the academic development of the children of Spotsylvania County Schools.
(Please remember that the calendar for 2010-11 has already been
established by the School Board and is available on the division web site.)
