The Parent Resource Center serves parents of children who are, or may be found to be, eligible for special education programs. The goal of the center is to promote a cooperative partnership between parents and the schools. The center provides training for parents, educators, and the community; maintains a lending library of books, videos, and educational journals; promotes an understanding of the special education process; and clarifies information and offers consultation to parents to provide direction for educational concerns and community services.

The center staff offer an “Understanding Special Education” course and workshops and professional development opportunities on such topics as disability awareness, parenting, learning styles, self advocacy, transition, and family involvement. Other responsibilities include the appointment and training of surrogate parents, promotion of Child Find for Spotsylvania County Schools, publication of informational material, participation in the Special Education Advisory Committee, and participation in related community organizations.
