Cyber Predators

A cyber predator is someone who uses the Internet to exploit another person. The cyber predator “grooms” his/her victims over time to take advantage of them financially, sexually, emotionally, and psychologically.  Children and teens are not the only victims, but kids are the most vulnerable population of Internet users to become a cyber predator’s target.

Agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), local law enforcement, and your school division are focused on protecting our children from cyber predators.

Every school division in the Commonwealth of Virginia must ensure that students learn about cyber predators and practice cyber safety tips, but we need parent support.  We need your help and support in ensuring that our children are not exploited by individuals who attempt to use the Internet to contact or take advantage of another user at all times, especially when they are at home using a computer, or networked portable device.

We have listed valuable information and resources for parents on this web page and encourage every parent to check out the DVD available in their school library on Internet Safety and cyber predators.
