Did you know that 31% of children admit to chatting with people they have never met in person, and 12% say they have met face-to-face someone they previously met online?

Personal Safety is the major focus of Spotsylvania County Public Schools Internet Literacy program, and our
Acceptable Use Policy.

It is essential that children and teens using the Internet be provided with the knowledge they need to protect their own identity, recognize dangerous situations online, and be proactive in reporting questionable encounters or circumstances that take place on the Internet to you and to their teachers.

With easy access to the Internet by way of some cell phones, and gaming devices, threats to personal safety over the Internet take place more often off school campus and on personal and home networks. Spotsylvania County Schools provides protection through fire walls and filters, but no application can fully protect every student. This is why it is very important that you support your child’s understanding of the Internet and safe interactions in cyberspace.

Our ITRTs and librarians are
ISAFE trained. Please visit our schools and talk to these staff members who can share valuable resources, tips and tricks with you and your family. You may also find the links on this web page helpful as you talk with your child about personal safety on the Internet.
