College Course Option

The College Course Option provides an avenue for instructional staff to meet the professional development requirement by taking a course relating to their current teaching position. If the course meets the general guidelines below, the request is routed to the appropriate content/special area director/supervisor/coordinator for approval based on alignment with the curriculum and division initiatives and then routed to the building principal for approval based on the school's Professional Learning Plan and the individual needs of the teacher.

Guidelines

The course must be directly related to your current teaching assignment (relating to 2010-2011 school year). A syllabus may be required to ensure compliance with guidelines.
Graduate or undergraduate courses taking place outside of regular school hours can be used under this option.
The course must take place between June 14, 2010 and May 8, 2011.  However, if a course begins in May and runs thru July, most of the seat hours of the course must take place after June 14, 2010.

The College Course 2010-2011 form is completed and submitted through MyLearningPlan.  Submission Deadlines:

  • May 21, 2010 for June-August 2010 courses
  • September 10, 2010 for September-December 2010 course
  • December 10, 2010 for course occurring January-April 2011

All costs related to attending a college course are the responsibility of the participant.

Upon completion of this activity, it is YOUR responsibility to submit a copy of the grade or transcript you receive to Professional Development.  Please be sure you are able to submit a copy of the grade or transcript prior to May 14, 2011.

Participants will complete a follow-up reflection through MyLearningPlan.

Interested staff should talk with their principal and contact Professional Development or appropriate content/special area director/supervisor/coordinator with questions.
