Attendance Guidelines

In-house courses are considered to be the equivalent of three days of your yearly contract.  Therefore, attendance is required and monitored in the same manner as any other "teaching day."

To verify your attendance for payroll and recertification purposes, please become familiar with the procedures below:

  • You will be asked to record your total attended hours daily. If you must arrive late or leave the class temporarily for a portion of the day, THIS TIME AWAY MUST BE REPORTED AS AN ABSENCE.
  • Absences will be based on the total number of hours actually missed (rounded up to the nearest half day).
  • It is your job to notify your principal/supervisor if you are unable to attend your course. An absence form will be forwarded to you from Professional Development for your principal/supervisor to complete.
  • Sick leave benefits are available according to School Board Policy.
  • Personal leave requires the prior approval of the principal.
  • Professional leave days, while appropriate for attendance at conferences or workshops on school days, may NOT be used to meet professional development program requirements.
  • Selection of your professional development course should not interfere with other school-related duties (i.e., coaching, meetings, IEP conferences).
  • There will be NO make-up sessions for any course.
