North TIER Option
The North TIER Partnership is a consortium of 15 school divisions in Northern Virginia and MHz Networks. The Partnership is the recipient of a grant to provide professional development to teachers in the successful integration of technology into instruction.
North TIER courses are not conducted at a certain time of the day, as these courses are delivered online. Also, there is no pre-determined login time during the week. You may log in to the class at any time. During the first day of the week, the Instructor will post an assignment and a discussion question in Blackboard. Class participants are required to log in during the week, complete the assignments and participate in the discussion board. Participants are expected to go back to the discussion board throughout the week to respond to classmates posts. Participants can expect to spend at least 4-5 hours each week completing class activities.
Terms and Conditions
There is a $25 registration fee for each North TIER course. The courses delivered by North TIER have a value of $200!
In addition, Course Participants must agree to the following terms and conditions:
Complete a pre-training and follow-up survey.
Work with another teacher on developing a technology-infused lesson, unit or project at some point in the future. You may be asked to provide the North TIER with the name(s) of the colleague(s) who worked with you directly as a result of the professional development opportunity.
Agree to the North TIER polices. In particular, please note the policy for dropping courses without penalty.
Registration for Summer 2010 courses opens June 1!
Courses run June 28 - August 15
Participants receive 30 recertification points for successful completion. Partial credit will not be awarded.

Instructions for Spotsylvania staff are to use Spotsylvania's MLP system so your records will be reflected in your portfolio. Do not follow the instructions on the pdf for creating a new account.
Select North TIER under "Activity Catalogs"
Review the Course Details and "CLICK TO ENROLL"
Review and complete your account information
Select "30 recertification points" for enrollment type
Select Credit Card for payment method
Enter payment information
On the Request for North Tier Course Approval form, the following need to be completed:
Select at least one "Objective."
Select all appropriate "Purposes" (this tells your building principal whether you are registering in fulfillment of your 2010-2011 PL Requirement or as an optional activity).
Be sure to click "submit."
Form is routed to your principal for approval based on your contribution to your schools PL Plan and your individual needs.
Confirm that you are registered by checking back on MyLearningPlan.
Upon completion of the course:
Log on to MyLearningPlan
Select the title of the course in your learning plan
Complete the “Follow-up Reflection,” then click “Mark Complete.”
Professional Development will award final credit upon completion of these final steps.
