The ACT is another widely accepted college entrance exam. It assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science. The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay.

Students who receive accommodations on both school-level and state-sponsored testing programs may be eligible for accommodations on college admissions or Advanced Placement tests. Any student who has a documented disability and accommodations stipulated in an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan needs to register that information with the appropriate testing company prior to registering to take a PSAT, SAT, ACT or AP test. Registration materials are available in the counseling office at each high school in Spotsylvania County.
